It is that time of year when the leaves foliage provides stunning views and leaves start hitting the ground. Whether you prefer the outdoors or getting "comfy" on the couch with a Pumpkin Spice latte it seems like everyone enjoys the fall. Here are some important things to remember to keep your property looking its best heading into the holiday season!
Aerate Lawn- A simple process by which you "poke" holes into the lawn to loosen up compacted soil. This allows for better water retention, nutrients, and overall healthier soil for new lawn seed.
"Over Seed"- This is exactly what it sounds like. Once you have properly cleaned up lawn by calling Baer Landscaping it is time to lay down some new lawn seed. Over seeding every fall helps keep your lawn looking lush but also can fill in existing bare spots.
Spot treat weeds- Although the winter will kill most invasive weeds it is still a good practice to lay down a solid post and pre emergent weed control. The post emergent will kill existing weeds that have grown and the pre emergent will help prevent some weeds from growing in the spring.
Water new lawn seed but do not drown them. The fall is the perfect time to plant new lawn seed between cooler temps, more rain fall, and less competition with weeds. However an often over looked step is simply watering the new lawn seed. We suggest 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening. If you are home during day or can install a timed sprinkler system that is best.
Frequent mowing- Once you have allowed new seed to germinate for at least 14 days you have to still mow regularly. We suggest a grass height of 2-3 inches depending on your lawn type.
